Being an educational bad ass is no easy feat! Let's be honest teachers are amazing. I can barely manage the kids in my house let alone 32 of them talking at the same time in a small class room. Those who can't do teach? My butt! Those who CAN DO either teach or serve as a U.S. Navy Seabee. Teachers... that is a tough group to be in.
To honor teachers this Back to School season, we here at MixedTees.com would like to recognize one who has made a difference in your life. For me it was Mr. Bill Yanez, an English Force more than a teacher, at Santa Maria High School. He taught me how to shake hands like a man and the importance of looking people in the eye. He singlehandledly convinced me to go from a C student to an A student with just the right amount amount of "You can do it" and "kick in the pants." He could quiet a class with a look and set you at ease with a smile. He taught me about The Beattles and that Character is what you do when no one is looking. Sadly, Mr. Yanez passed away before I could share with him what a difference he'd made in my life. Or atleast that's what a classmate I went to school with said and I stupidly believed him.
No, William Yanez is 77 and happily living our his well deserved retirement with his wife and children. What isn't a rumor is the thousands of children he helped transition from teenager to self centered young adult (and I thought I was the only special one :P). So in his memory and as a part of his legacy, our staff at mixedtees.com would like to give the 2015 William Yanez teacher's award to one of your teachers.
