William Shatner Tweets “Hype” about his role as Capt. Kirk in Star Trek 3

The rumor mill is spinning about William Shatner having a role in the next Star Trek reboot installment. Originally broken by badassdigest.com, they say an insider leaked that there would be a scene with old Spock and old Kirk in the next movie.

Just because Shatner hasn’t been contacted doesn’t mean he won’t. Filming doesn’t begin for another six months.
Roberto Orci himself went to trekmovie.com to deliver his own response:

"Love no win scenarios. In theory, damned either way.

Not in my interest to confirm or deny anything because it limits my options while maintaining my integrity as a truth teller. The movie is not the movie till it is in the theater. Until then, everything is a rumor."

The screenplay for Star Trek 3 was only recently completed and no official casting announcements have been made yet, including the primary returning crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise now led by Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto.

Star Trek 3 doesn't begin production until early 2015, with a 2016 release date waiting to be officially announced.

A William Shatner cameo isn't being entirely ruled out just yet. It will mark the first time William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy have shared the screen for Star Trek since 1991's Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. The film is also arriving on the franchise's 50th Anniversary, which makes fans even more sure he is going to be included this time, after being left out of 2009's Star Trek and last year's Star Trek Into Darkness.
